About Commercial Bandwidth Services

Although Airbus Defence and Space owns and operates a fleet of military X-band and UHF satellites (Skynet) for specialist military satellite communications, it is a full end-to-end satellite services provider for military and government users who also require access to L-band, Ku-band, Ka-band and C-band; all of which are part of the portfolio which is offered by Airbus Defence and Space.

Different satellite bandwidths provide different benefits depending on your requirements, environment and the platforms you are using. Often militaries and governments will have core, military secure capability, nominally X-band, and augment their other requirements with commercial bandwidths.

The benefits of procuring  commercial bandwidth from Airbus Defence and Space as a managed service is that all your satcom requirements are managed under one contract. Airbus Defence and Space procures all commercial satellite bandwidth as part of a managed service provision, which includes L-band, Ku-band, Ka-band and C-band.

Mobile Satellite Services

On land, at sea or in the air where the local network is unreliable or simply does not exist, Airbus Defence and Space offers a complete portfolio of mobile voice and data services to almost anywhere on the planet. We are the number one provider of L-band Services with Thuraya, Iridium and Inmarsat  as part of our portfolio for mobile satellite services. The benefits of having L-band as part of your satcom mix of capability is that it provides lightweight, global coverage for mobile voice and data connectivity, whether on land, at sea or in the air.

Fixed Satellite Services

Airbus Defence and Space offers both C and Ku-band service for government and military users.

C-band service is used for a wide range of government communications, including for battlefield communications, command and control systems, as well as disaster recovery. Operating in the 4 to 8 GHz frequency range, C-band satellite coverage is ideal for intercontinental and global communications over land and sea. Ku-band service operates in the 12 to 18 GHz frequency range, making it suitable for smaller receiving antenna sysems and suitable for maritime-based communications.
